Massive fic updates and announcements.

Firstly.

All three of my outstanding fanfic claims from 2007 are now complete!

I am going to officially retire my claim prompt post on this journal, because I have made a new one over on so_out_of_fic for the new claims I've decided to take.

I am very excited about the completion of these claims. All of them were Stargate: SG-1 related, and my ability to write in that fandom has been gone for what seems like an eternity. Suddenly, this week it came back when I decided to make an attempt at writing drabbles, which leads me to the next part of the update.

I cannot write drabbles. And, since I hate anything that I can't do, I decided to force myself to write some. I ended up with a whole bunch of ficlets that are shorter than what I usually do as a "ficlet" but over the mark for a drabble (A drabble, for anyone who might ask, must be 100 words exactly) and then, eventually, I actually managed to write a handful of DRABBLES.

Doing them seems to have awakened my ability to write SG-1 and I was finally able to not only continue but complete my latest running SG-1 AU series, The Games People Play

Other announcements regarding the future of my Stargate AUs.

• Rediscovered Hearts I have been reading through the six completed chapters of the direct RH sequel, and I would really like to complete the story, especially since I am so profoundly disheartened by the direction in which SGA seems to be heading (No, that statement has nothing to do with the ship wars.) but the format of the story just isn't working for me. I can't get a handle on which elements of the Atlantis canon I need to keep, so the switching back and forth between Earth and the Pegasus galaxy in each chapter is not working. I know everything I need to know about the SG-1 elements, so I am in the process of re-thinking the format and will be re-posting the fic in its entirety between Bloodkin, One Path, and Happy Endings. I can't say when, because it's really low on the priority list right now. Aruna and I are also discussing another long fic in this AU, to be written sometime in the not-so-near future when I'm less busy. This one is not yet titled, but it would involve a crossover between Stargate and Highlander. I have actually wanted to write a HL crossover since I got into Stargate fandom--specifically one not dealing with Methos and/or Tanith--but I had no workable premise. I really need to be able to watch HL again, though, and since I don't have the DVDs, this one will be a shelf-project for now.



• Taking The Long Way I have decided to scrub the planned sequel to Taking the Long Way. This sequel was meant to be a collaborative effort between myself and another fan, but I have gone as far as I feel comfortable with it alone. We had planned to take the team to Disneyland, but I just don't have enough knowledge of the park to pull it off myself. I'd really like to do some more with this AU, so since my collaborator's time online has been curtailed by more important things in real life, I'm going to take the fic in another direction.



• The Games People Play
Games ended this week with the marriage of one of the principle couples involved in the story. Some on my flist are aware of plans to do further story arcs in this universe. I decided that the best thing for the AU would be to end Games on the strong note of a wedding. The other story arcs I had planned would logically have to take place later in continuity, so I have decided to plan 2 sequels. The Baby Game will deal with the humorous side of Sam's upcoming pregnancy. The Writing Game will deal with Vala and Teal'c's ventures (together and separately) into Star Wars fanfiction.</li>


• Life After Death My lesser known AU involving a consummated relationship between Daniel and Janet actually has a plot, though it is still somewhat loose. I'd planned to re-write the events of Rite of Passage, Meridian, and Heroes to account for the fact that Daniel and Janet are together before those. I've never actually tried to re-write SG cannon before, though I've done it for Star Wars, and I'm not quite sure when the rest of the fic will be posted because I'm still getting a handle on things.

There is only one person I expect to understand this title, and she doesn't like Stargate. Anyway, I wrote this because I keep telling people that Jack and Daniel's friendship reminds me of the one that I have with nekkidchick--even though they fight WAY more than we do; I think it's a guy thing. "The Other Me" doesn't mean "my other half". It's not a reference to one completing the other, or an implication of a relationship with romantic overtones. As nekkidchick and I have said for years, "That would be like sleeping with myself." It's something else, and it's infinitely harder to explain unless you have experienced it. I tried to put it into words in this piece, but I really don't know how well I did.

This is over on my fic comm, but I am re-posting it here because I think it's as close as I can get to expressing a phenomenon that is as much about me and Sarah as it is about Jack and Daniel.

Thanks to my fellow evil genius for her help with this one. I've had this idea for some time and it's never panned out the other times I've tried it, but maevebran asked for a Daniel/Sarah fic dealing with what happened after Chimera. Here we have one. Okay, that's it for requests for now. Sarah, I'm still working on yours. Since it's Bloodkinverse, I have to flock the post anyway, so I was going to post it separately. At the moment, anything in that particular 'verse seems to be like pulling teeth to write, but I'll get it posted for you soon.

Also have a couple of other claim fics. After writing that last one, I got a bit of a bug. One of the things that always struck me as off/annoying was the way Sha're was written out of the show. I know that there were reasons for the character's death, but given the fact that she was Daniel's wife and the entire motivation for his joining SG-1, it bothers me that after Forever In A Day, there is almost no mention of her. (Don't even get me started on the horribly bad taste of airing Past and Present only an episode later.)

I know I've mentioned before how much I love the friendship between Jack and Daniel, because it reminds me very much of my own relationships with my two best friends. So, I did a couple of short friendship fics set late s3 dealing with that friendship as it relates to Sha're. The title of Returning a Favor is a loose movie ref, but it doesn't matter if you haven't seen the film. Silence turned out to be more of a team friendship than just Jack and Daniel, but I really like it regardless.
